Consultation on the Draft Statement of Community Involvement

Friday 13th March - Friday 24th April 2026

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explains how residents, businesses, and anyone with an interest in the District’s development can take part in the planning process. It covers involvement in creating and updating Development Plan Documents (Local Plans), preparing Supplementary Planning Documents, and how the Council will consult the public on planning, listed building, and related applications.

It sets out the ways organisations and individuals can contribute to plan‑making and how their views will be considered when planning applications are assessed. It also defines the consultation standards the Council will follow and the methods it will use to engage with the community.

The last SCI was adopted in 2021, and since the planning system has undergone further legislative changes. Updating the SCI is therefore necessary to reflect these developments and to incorporate evolving approaches to public consultation. It is also important to draw on past experience to assess whether current engagement methods for plan‑making and planning applications remain effective.
