It is with concern that l hear about the plans for significant development in Barrowby where l have lived for more than 20 years and raised my family.
The 'village' has already been developed in a number of areas, which has been acceptable, but to create a further 725 homes over the next 5 years is most certainly not! I believe that the village identity will be diluted. Also, Barrowby has few resources as it is - what are the plans to meet the social, educational and medical needs of the potential additional inhabitants? I am not clear from what l have read.
I appreciate that efforts are being made to obtain feedback to facilitate some consideration of the impact of the proposed development on the people of Barrowby. However, with a significant demographic of older people in the village, l am concerned that all voices have not been heard. Navigating the council website and submitting comments would be inaccessible for many.

The total of 725 houses, which includes SKPR-272 will have a huge impact on our village. This will nearly double the size of the newer part of the village. We are a fairly small community who know and support each other but these proposals will mean that will change. We would no longer be a village - just a suburb of Grantham. The density means they will be mostly semis, which is not in keeping with most of the rest of the village which is mainly comprised of detached properties. This will change the demographic.
The new proposals will mean around 1,450 extra cars using the village roads and Dysart Road, which is already congested at busy times of the day. We already have problems with cars on Low Road when football matches are being played on the Low Field, both with the volume of traffic and parking problems. If it goes ahead, for a road to join up with the A607 for traffic going into Grantham or accessing the A1.
There are no facilities in the village to cope for such an increase in the population. The primary school is already oversubscribed and there is no medical centre.

General Concerns:
-Not enough detail is available regarding the planned infrastructures.
-Possible 900 cars (lost the traditional bus services Bottesford to Grantham)
Other Concerns:
1. The main roads in the village are NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR THE PRESENT TRAFFIC.
2. Closure of A1 or A52 - main routes through the village must not be used to take the full traffic load off either A1 or A52 road.
3. Reading rd must not be connected straight on to Low rd
4. A roundabout needs to be created at the Drift/ Low rd junction. (currently dangerous)
5. To exit the A1 slip rd, turning right towards Grantham, on to the A52 is extremely difficult due to heavy traffic at present
6. Coming from Gramtham A52 to the A1 Barrowby turn. The slip road off is not long enough or wide enough
7. The A1 A52 Barrowby interchange is a lethal disgrace and needs complete replanning. How can a junction of two main A roads be in such a dangerous state. Plus I am aware a housing development is planned for Sedgebrook which is very close by.
Those are just traffic concerns. What other facilities are planned for the possible developments.

Ref: proposed development within Barrowby Parish
1- Water and sewage could be a problem with so many additional houses in Barrowby. Many years ago - there was a definite problem with sewage at Westry corner.
2- Barrowby Primary School would not be big enough for all the extra traffic

Barrowby would be considered as the most suited to accommodate further growth to meet the identified Local Housing Need. The location is sustainable and in close proximity to Grantham, as well as offering good access to public transport such as the Rail service providing connections to the rest of the country. Barrowby has been identified a key growth area and top of the Settlement Hierarchy.
Pleased to see the Council have identified that Barrowby is well suited to accommodate future growth by identifying that proposed allocations could be made there (currently identified as: SKPR-327 Land east of The Drift and land south of Low Road, Barrowby – 455 units). However, the Council should further consider alternative and additional proposals in Barrowby to be able to meet the Local Housing Need. As such, the Council should consider Land south of Casthorpe Road, Barrowby (SKPR-206). This site is available immediately and would aid towards meeting the housing targets within South Kesteven.

Promotion of the land east of Rectory Lane, Barrowby (‘the site’), for residential development of up to 100 dwellings with open space, landscaping, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
The site is a suitable option that is available and deliverable for providing the required growth in the district within the early years post adoption of the emerging Local Plan. Considers that the site is highly suitable for consideration as a proposed housing allocation.
