Representation Summary:

I am writing to enquire about the current Neighbourhood Plan consultation in Barrowby. Specifically, I wish to express my concern regarding the influence that outside commercial interests may have on the future of our village.
My understanding is that a Neighbourhood Plan is designed to empower local communities. It should allow residents and stakeholders who genuinely care about the village to shape its future and protect vital local amenities—assets that wider bodies, such as SKDC, might overlook.
However, it has come to my attention that commercial housing providers are using this consultation as an opportunity to influence development solely for corporate profit. Unlike residents, these developers do not make a personal investment in Barrowby. Many of us have invested our personal wealth, time, and futures here to build a community for our children. A housebuilder, by contrast, has no long-term interest in our community. Their involvement is driven by short-term profitability, leaving the village to manage the long-lasting ramifications of their developments long after they have moved on.
Therefore, I request that comments from developers who do not own land or hold a genuine stake in the village are not given the same weight as the views of local residents. Their primary motive is financial, and the planning process should prioritise the community over commercial gain.
